Model United Nations was developed in an effort to educate high school students about world politics and international issues. The idea spawned from the "Model League of Nations" and took off immediately. On both a high school and college level, students made the idea an instant success. From the first conference held by The First National High School Model United Nations in 1975 until today, the participation and level of interest shown by students has made Model United Nations a prestigious club in schools across America and around the world.
MUN gives students the chance to know just what it feels like to represent a country in the United Nations. After being given delegations to represent, students participate in a simulated debate in which current and pressing issues are discussed and debated. Students follow all the normal procedures and rules of the UN including drawing up resolutions for the topics at hand. This type of interaction and setting prepares inspiring students for a career in politics or careers involving leadership and communication. Above all, the Model United Nations is an educational and fun experience for all who participate.Listed below are links to more sites about MUN: SIDMUN Rules (a must-read for new delegates) and highlights of the Model UN experience.
